Why do people try to make other people’s wedding a family get together/reunion? Just wondering. It seems like when you get married, everyone wants to come and invite others as well at the payee’s expense. At this point of my planning stage, I should get this tattooed on my face “MY WEDDING IS NOT A FAMILY REUNION!”

Are people forgetting the cost that’s involved?

$25 for food pp, $10 for drinks pp, $2 for chair cover pp, $10 per table linen $3 for guest favors pp and $2.00 for a slice of cake pp

What makes someone I haven’t seen or spoken to in 2 or 3 years think they should get an invite? What makes a family member think that it is okay to invite 3rd or 4th cousins that no one knows? What makes a person think its okay to invite a bunch of children? What makes it okay for a guest to bring 2 or three uninvited guests with them and think nothing of it? Who thinks its okay to go to a person’s wedding with no gift or even an envelope? If I send you an rsvp card and it clearly states that we reserved 3 seats for you, why would you write in 5 people’s names? Is it okay to NOT RSVP, and just show up? Is it okay to rsvp a week or two after the rsvp due date??

Just askin???

Now that I am planning a wedding, I will now and forever pledge going forth to be the best guest I can be. I followed the rules before, but it will now be my duty to educate ignorant wedding guest on wedding guest etiquette.

The End,

B.Rob

I am so excited about my invitations. When I first started planning, I was so scared that invitations were going to cost me an arm and a leg. So, I started looking at DIY kits from Michaels Arts & Crafts, Targets and other stores. I never quite found anything that excited me. I then started looking at companies that custom design invites for you, but they all required printing and the cost ranged from $500 to $1,000! I refused to pay that amount for invitations! Then, I started lurking on theknot.com at different ideas that current bride to be's were posting regarding great finds for invitations and signage. And boy oh boy, did they provide me with some awesome ideas. Howver,I ended up finding out that the knottie that designed my monograms (see monogram post) also designs custom invitations! I was so excited! I sent her pictures of what I wanted and we worked together designing the invitation suite. She crated an invite, rsvp postcard, directions and hotel accommodations card for me. She also created signage for my reception. All this cost me a total of $50. I went to Office Max to do a test print. I printed on metallic white paper. They also cut everything for you for a small fee. This is another great example of getting a custom item created at a great price. Contact miss jones via her blog. Great working with her!!   http://thebuckeyebride.blogspot.com

My ring bearer box and accessories box. I found them both at Marshalls Home goods. There was no way I was passing these up! They just caught my eye! The big box..I am going to put my jewelry, shoes and maybe my veil..not sure. But it ran me $12 bucks! The little cute box..well its not really a ring bearer box, but it is for my wedding. I purchased this for about $6 bucks! You can't tell, but both boxes are ivory and are decked out in crystals which reflect color. I love it!

Right now I am in the process of selecting a wedding cake! I am so excited about this. There are so many decisions to be made! Round or Square? 3 layers? 4 layers? Maybe 5 layers? Fondant or buttercream? Freash flowers or elaborate design? Vanilla, Strawberry, Red Velvet? Chocolate? You see what I'm going through? I have so many decisions!

Anyway, before I spill the beans on what I really desire, I thought I'd share a brief history of how the wedding cake tradition came to be.

Wedding cakes dates back to the Roman era.
Certainly the Romans were not in the habit of baking elaborate or elegant wedding cakes with buttercream icing and custom wedding-cake toppers. Usually they used loaves of wheat bread. The loaf of bread was broken over the heads of the newlyweds to bring them luck and prosperity. Sometimes it was broken only over the bride’s head, usually by the groom.

The crumbs of wedding cake, that landed on the floor symbolized good luck and fertility for the bride and groom, and it was considered good luck for guests to eat the crumbs of "wedding cake". Single women scrambled for the grains to ensure their own betrothals.

During the middle ages the bridal - wedding cakes were simple biscuits or scones.

At that time each guest brought one small bridal cake to the wedding (somewhat bigger than cupcake wedding cake of nowadays). They were piled on top of each other, and the bride and groom had to kiss across the top of the piled cakes to bring them good luck in their marriage.

The history of wedding cakes goes on: In the seventeenth century French bakers stacked the wheat buns and coated them with icing. This was the beginning of new history of wedding cakes, they start looking like ours. The typical wedding cake today is composed of several cakes stacked in layers and the whole thing covered with icing.

Shapes range from: square, round, rectangular, heart etc... But there are so many options and design ideas that it can be difficult to choose the one that is just right for you. You would also like to keep the wedding cake price at the reasonable level, while having elegant and classy cake.

In the past, wedding cakes were considered a symbol, and everyone wanted the same bland white cake with white icing because that was the symbol. Luckily, the days of those boring wedding cakes are past. Today’s bridal cakes can be a culinary and design extravaganza.

The bride creates or finds a design she likes, and the caterer hires a bakery to create her unique wedding cake or bride does it herself.

At the reception the bride cuts the first two slices with the groom’s hand placed over hers. The groom feeds the bride the first slice and then the bride feeds the groom the second. This symbolizes the support they will provide to each other.

I hope you found the history of wedding cakes interesting :-) You may share it with the guests at your reception and have some fun together.

Wow!! I feel TERRIBLE! It has been an entire month since I last posted! Well, I was on "wedding planning strike" I was just tired of planning, talking about planning and yeah..PLANNING! But now I am back and refreashed!!!

This blog is dedicated to my awesome finace and all the other groom and groomsman out there. It seems so unfair that majority of the wedding world is centered around the bride! But, you know what..TE GROOM MATTERS TOO!
I think grooms are okay with it, heck, I don't think they even have a choice!

Anyway, right now I am focusing on my groom to be and his groomsman. We kind of want to stay away from the traditional look... you know, the all black tuxedo, black vest and white shirts. We want to be a bit unique.
Below, I have some pics of different styles and trends I really like. Tell me what you think???

Of course all of you that happens to be planning a wedding (like myself) know all about the "colorful shoe" trend. But for those who don't, the new trend, for a few years now is instead of a bride wearing a traditional white or ivory bridal show under her gown, some brides choose to wear a colorful shoe under their gown! I think it is an awesome trend! If I decide to follw this trend, the shoe you see above would be my number shoe pick (Paris Hilton Gala Shoe). Too bad it' sold out everywhere!!What do you think? Take a look at all the daring brides below! I love it!!
